Poor Experience

Our son and his wife purchased the two night break gift voucher from Debenhams and gave it to us as a Christmas present in December 2018. Throughout 2019 we tried and tried and tried to get a Hotelier to accept our booking but all declined because the real value of the voucher is insufficient after everybody had taken commission from the original in store cost price. Eventually to avoid the loss of £99.00 we were charged by Activity Superstore another £25.00 to upgrade and book a B&B in Norfolk for 1 night only. Total paid was £124.00 for a one night stay which should have cost £90.00 I would recommend any purchaser to check the small print and ignore the picture on the front of the box.

An ‘Irritating’ Gift!

This was a gift but one we struggled to enjoy. It has a time period within which it has to be used, else it is forfeited (this happened to us once before!) The choice of gifts is limited - and are the kind of things you wouldn’t choose to do otherwise. We went for the weekend break as the ‘best of the worst’ and even that was problematic. Breakfast not included... additional hidden costs... limited and poor quality hotels / pubs... we upgraded to a nicer choice of hotels, which meant 1 might not 2 plus an upgrade cost... all in all, an irritating gift!

Not a great experience!

This was bought as a Christmas present for me. It was hard work to book and I needed to pay the owner of the hotel to use the voucher - they do not allow one night stays at weekends.

Not so unique in Leek?

We used the White Hart as an opportunity to have a weekend break and for that purpose it was fine. However the accommodation was characterless. There was no parking available with the property and the owners insisted on taking credit card details in advance of our arrival although the booking was accounted for and there was nothing of any great value in the room itself. No information was given on liability limits etc. The room was small and not suitable for using for extended periods during the day and there was no communal lounge or equivalent. Breakfast was good and the dining room had more character.
